A little bit on Robin Hirsch and Michael Jacobsohn
Robin is a successful author and performer. His memoir Last Dance at the Hotel Kempinski: Creating a Life in the Shadow of History delves into the aftermath of the Holocaust and the effects it had on him and his family. Since the book’s release, Robin has been doing readings around the United States and Europe.
I, myself, am a child of Holocaust survivors. Thus, I resonate deeply with Robin’s story. For a long time, it has been difficult for me to look closely into the pain of my past. It has now become vitally important for me to document that tragedy. At the same time, I want to celebrate the ongoing movements of survivors, like Robin and myself, to create vibrant communities of hope in EXILE.
Robin Hirsch and I are in our golden years, yet we refuse to slow down. In the last twelve years, since retiring as an editor at ABC news, I have produced three full-length documentaries that highlight the struggles of various New York City artists. I have focused on people who live on the margins of society with little income and voice, and yet have deep aspirations to bring their unique stories and works before the public. Robin’s journey is equally compelling.
